What is domestic violence?

  • It is violence or abuse that occurs in the home between spouses, partners or with their children. Domestic violence typically involves causing injury. Victims typically suffer physical injuries such as bruises or broken bones. The abusive relationships also involves mental and emotional suffering resulting in depression and social isolation.
  • Domestic violence affects all levels of society regardless of income or education. It typically goes unreported which perpetuates the activity by a dominating spouse, partner, parent or boyfriend/girlfriend.
